Organising a Wedding
International Couples
No matter where you live in the world you can easily arrange to be married in Sydney. The following information explains how to organize your wedding ceremony.
A Notice of Intended Marriage Form can be obtained from the Australian embassy in most countries. This form needs to be completed having your signatures witnessed in front of any of the people listed on the back page of the Notice. If you are overseas, an Australian consular or Australian diplomatic officer must witness your signatures (or any persons listed on the Notice who are Australian citizens) These people must also view your relevant supporting documentation - i.e. passport, birth certificate, decree absolute, death notice.
It is not possible to be married without producing these papers.
When the Notice of Intended Marriage form has been filled in, and witnessed by the correct authority, you must then fax the completed Notice of intended marriage form to me, no later than one month and one day prior to your wedding day and no earlier than eighteen months prior to your wedding day. The day I receive your fax is classified as the "lodgment date".
You will need to produce your birth certificates (passports are acceptable if you are born overseas), if previously married your divorce papers, the decree absolute, or death certificates are also required. If birth certificates are not available for any reason, a Statutory Declaration will be prepared for signing.
The Notice of Intended Marriage Form can be obtained from any Australian embassy or High Commission world wide or on-line at http://www.ag.gov.au/celebrants, following the links.
You do not need to be in Australia to lodge the Notice of Intended Marriage Form, you can mail or fax it to me prior to your Wedding day. Upon receipt of your completed Notice all the official marriage certificates are completed by me. All that is required by you is two witnesses over the age of eighteen years to sign the marriage certificates on the wedding day.
However, on arrival in Sydney, prior to your wedding day you will be required to hand me the original Notice of Intended Marriage form and show me all your original legal paperwork (birth certificates, passports, decree absolutes, death certificates etc.).
Overseas Visitors:
I live approximately 12 kilometers from the heart of Sydney. Sydney has various modes of transport from the city to Epping which take approximately 25-30 minutes. If you are intending to visit Sydney please let me know and I will further assist with venues, accommodation, transport, photographers, and any other questions you may have.
